Letter to the Editor: Skaff helps constituents

A letter to the editor posted in the Charleston Gazette.

Editor:

Recently I e-mailed the office of 30th District Legislator Doug Skaff to assist in an environmental disaster in the Cabin Creek area of Decota. The asphalt on CR 76 had dissolved under the weight of constant coal haulage from two nearby mountaintop removal complexes, rendering the road almost impassable for school buses, emergency, and residential vehicles.

Before the rush hour traffic ended that day I received a call from Delegate Skaff, whose soft-spoken voice seemed very enthusiastic to help the residents of Decota.

Skaff speak about jobs and coal on Fox News

Last week, Doug Skaff spoke on Fox News about the impact of coal on West Virginia.

“West Virginia Leads Battle Against EPA Over Mountaintop Mining Regulations”, April 8, 2010:

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced much tougher standards for water quality at mountaintop mining sites, effective immediately.

Doug Skaff, a Democratic state lawmaker, warns it will hurt the coal industry and cost jobs in tough economic times.

“Nobody really understands the impact that coal has here in West Virginia,” Skaff said.
“It gives back to the schools. It gives back to the communities. It gives back to the infrastructure of the state.”
